I think Road Car changeability should remain on tyre pressure change as its commonly used with Road Cars, and Steering configurations in the Setup Options because of different Steering Wheels Hardware.

Other than that, the Road Cars should be setted up as closely to reflect there supposed to be Road Car behaviour as possible.

I think that would be very much in the philosophy of Live for Speed.

But Opinions differ surely. Would be interesting to here Scawens view on this

While were at Gear Ratios...

I would like to be able to increase the Gear Ratios at a faster rate. Now you can set up the Gear Ratio with clicking on plus 1 or minus 1. To set it up with the Mouse is not precise. It would be good to have another button for increasements of 5 at one click.

What they said:

Quote from sinbad :We've always been led to believe that the cars with road tyres and no roll-cages are "road cars".

Virtually no production road cars have this level of adjustability, so to some extent, they are seriously modified/race prepared.

If we ever got a REAL mass produced road-car, like (for example and no particular reason) a Lotus Elise, then we would expect adjustments which you can make to the real thing, but anything beyond that would be basically a modification of the car with new parts, so the car would no longer be a standard Lotus Elise.

I don't think there is any reason to put these "road-cars" in this grey area of modified-production-car-but-still-not-a-race-car, other than the possibility that the devs don't have the time to make the cars handle properly themselves.

As for people who think it would make cars undrivable for them, that's not a reason for this suggestion to be a bad one. Some people might be more comfortable with certain cars than others, but why would that neccessarily be a bad thing? Real life cars do handle differently. Imagine if we got a Clio 182 and a 2.0litre road version of the XFGTi with similar power, slightly larger tyres and more weight because of the bigger engine. With the near-limitless restrictions in LFS atm those two cars would handle almost identically eventually, once the setups all got tuned. In real life the two cars might handle very differently indeed, and if that were the case in LFS it would be a good thing.

Quote from Cue-Ball :
It's quite obvious that these are NOT race cars. They're road cars. Since every single road car has a race equivalent, why should the road cars need so much adjustability? If you want a race car drive the XRR, not the XRT.

The road cars need to be configured closer to reality...

...These cars should be track day road cars, not full on race cars. No more of this infinitely adjustable gearing and damper foolishness.

I would say it should be something like this when you look at the cars that we have at the moment:

Quote from Hyperactive :
1. 100% standard road cars occasionally driven on track

XF GTI
XR GT
XR GT TURBO
RB4 GT
FXO TURBO
LX4
UF1000
RACEABOUT
FZ50

Quote from Hyperactive : 2. street legal trackday cars with some level of engine tuning, racing suspension mods etc.

UF GTR
XF GTR

Quote from Hyperactive : 3. full purpose track cars with rollbars, stripped interiors and streamlined engines and suspensions, barely road legal or not at all?

MRT5
XR GTR
FXO GTR
FZ50 GTR
FORMULA XR
FORMULA V8
BF1

Quote from Hyperactive :Simplifying the suspension into 3-stage system based on stiffness may sound like a good idea first but if no one uses the 2 softest spring set, there is no reason to put more than 1 set of springs available. Same thing with other things. As the car in LFS are used purely and only for racing purposes (+drifting and autocrossing) we need to look at this and think that the people who will drive these cars will always choose the more competitive option and never the more comfortable option.

Imho, basically there is no problem with the current setup system. It is just the precision and the ranges of the settings which makes setups a bit unrealistic.

Now I have a question which has nothing to do with Kev, but somebody maybe could answer this by the fly in this Thread....

What is when S3 gets released, and Physics have been updated, are all the WR resetted. How much did the laptimes gain/lose when going from S1 to S2?

Quote from Dik Dolan :Hello George, good to "see" you again=)

Your gpl fun races were my introduction to online sim racing, I look forward to chasing you on track again soon

Hi Dik !!! I totally oversaw your Post. Good to see you again man

I remember the GPL Races on the High Gear Forums! That was fun

Perhaps we could organize some Board Racing here also. Just yesterday I saw wheel4hummer in a Blackwood Race.

Hello!

I just wanted to bring this up again as I finally got time to make some pics of my Racing Rig.
I made a few tries with the fresnel lense but I didnt like it when running it with my monitor so I use it with the TV instead.
I postponed the buy of the ivibe seat to xmas when I got a little more free money with me. For now I'm really happy with my Racing Rig and it makes alot of fun.

I especially like the TrackIR, I would never Race without it and recommend it to everyone.

But I'm a bit dissapointed of the 3dGlasses.

Act Labs Shifter is awesome fun, good quality H gated shifter and adds very much to the immersion when driving.

I have added the best Simulator I have ever sat in, it was in Doha, a rich Arab city, on the last Picture.

If one of you people once come close to Linz in Austria and would like to take a drive just contact me

Thanks Scawen for your answer!! I seem to have driven a older Dallara, which had to be gear switched the H- type way.

But taking a look at the Formel Renault Homepage, and the European F2000 leagues, they all seem to be changing gears the sequentiell way. So it is correct how it is in LFS

Scawen has recently said that the Test Patch should be kept for U Test related issues.
I hope this lttle request is not to far off the need of keeping the Thread about bug reports/bug fixes... If it does please ignore.

The thing I would like to say is that I dont think it is right that all single seater cars dont work with a H Shifter since Version U11. My understanding is that the FXR is supposed to be driven with a H-type shifting technique with consistently clutching when changing Gears. I have driven a Formula Renault car in real life too and that is the way to shift Gears in these cars.

Although I'm not completely sure that there arent some leagues with these small Formula cars who do indeed F1 Paddle Shifting, as in LFS since U11. But I dont think that's the way the cars are supposed to be driven.

I would like to mention how Fixed Setups are used in other Sims in this discussion.

I hate to take the comparison to NASCAR Racing again, but it is good to take a look at how other Sims have adapted Options and how they affected the Online Racing.

In NASCAR Racing 2003 theres also the Option of Forcing the Setup.

Few Servers run this Option, I dont bother to look now but I guess about 15% of Servers run Fixed Setups.

The challenge in Oval Racing is that most of the time, a loose (oversteering) setup is fast on an Oval - but difficult to drive.
People who cant keep up with the Leaders Pace in an Oval sometimes choose to take a hard to drive (oversteering) setup in order to be able to keep up with the Front.

Now some Europeans who dont know much about Oval Racing or are simply ignorant towards this kind of Motorsport wouldnt believe, but sometimes even the skilled and experienced drivers spin and loose the car all by themselfes in an Oval as they try to push hard, because they took a loose setup.

What Forced Setups in NASCAR Racing 2003 by Papyrus means most of the time, is that the Server chooses to take a stable, if not slightly understeering Setup for his Server.

That leads to close Racing and can be alot of fun.

Some leagues would surely also like to have a Forced Setup Option, as some cars wouldnt be that much modifyable in real life, and if all drive with the same Setups it can produce great Racing.

Well it's not like FORCED SETUP - NO FORCED SETUPS, FORCED COCKPIT VIEW or NO FORCED COCKPIT VIEW, giving this Option free to the Server will put different kind of Races online which is something very good.

Cue-Ball could join a Server were theres a Forced Setup, and Jamexing is on a Server were he can choose his own Setup.

NASCAR RACING 2003 shows that it is possible and appreciated to have such things as Hardcore Mode, Cockpit View only, or Forced Setup Options. If you go into a NASCAR RACING Chatroom and suggest to close this Options it would look ridiculous cause it adds something good to the game.

Yes your right, it is more a FFFFFSSSHHHH - FFFFFFSSSHHH - FFFFSSSSHHH - it gets SO ANNOYING - is this supposed to stay in the Game - how can I shut it off ?

Jamexing, things like Fixed Setups could be an --> Option <--, for the Host.

Several Racing Simulations do have that OPTION, it is nothing new.

The Host or league should be able to organize a Race how they want it. If they want to host a LFS Race without Driving Aids on for the purpose of beeing a Simulation type Race, why shouldnt they be allowed to do so?
This is a Simulation afterall. Why shouldnt it be possible to Host a Multiplayer Race in Simulation Mode without driving aids?

Nobody says you shouldnt be able to host a Race with driving aids allowed.

So why shouldnt it be allowed the other way too?

Some Possible Options for the Hardcore Mode

* Cockpit view only
* No clutch help
* No throttle/blip help
* no resetting of the car
* Clutch has to be an Axis
* H-Shifter required (if the car is supposed to be driven that way)

NOTE: THIS COULD ALL BE OPTIONS ONLY

Niels, you dont happen to be the GPL driver known in VROC as Niels_at_home ?

About rFactor, Grafik, Sound, Immersion awesome...

But I always get the impression that the car is static and the track is dynamic. Like if one would steer the track around the car.

In LFS, NASCAR Racing 2003, GPL one can clearly see and feel there is a static track with the dynamic car on it, but in rFactor it feels the other way around, the track is moving around the car, and the cockpit is kind of like a static picture

Quote from Eric Tetz :
The fact is, turning off some of those driving aids will slow you down. For instance, manually shifting with a clutch is likely to slow most players down. However, some players may prefer to do that, even thought it's slower, because they want 100% simulation. Those players might prefer to race against other players who are also going 100% simulation so they can have a level playing field. Those players might choose to create servers where such rules are enforced, and you are would be completely free to not click on those servers. You get want you want, they get what they want, everybody's happy.

Well said.

Quote from xWolFx :-1 because some players that race with different controllers have adapted to using the specific aids, and switching them off is like leaving a 40 year old dad in rome without sat nav.

They dont have to switch them off, thats a point that repeatedly gets mixed up when talking about a Hardcore Mode. Forcing some Simulation type settings should be an possible -Option-, not a must for the Host.
